Incident Description

SpaceX is preparing for the 14th integrated flight test of its Starship launch system, targeted for no earlier than September 28, 2026. This mission marks a major milestone: the first planned attempt to place a Starship vehicle into a sustained Earth orbit and the first operational deployment of Starlink satellites using the system.

The flight will use Super Heavy Booster 21 and Starship Ship 41, both Block 3 vehicles. Liftoff is scheduled from Orbital Launch Pad 2 (Pad 2) at Starbase in South Texas, during a roughly 75-minute window opening around 7:15 a.m. Central Time. Unlike the previous 13 suborbital test flights, Flight 14 aims for an orbital insertion burn that would allow Ship 41 to complete approximately six orbits at an altitude of about 275 km over a nearly 10-hour mission.

A key objective is the deployment of 26 Starlink Version 3 satellites—the first operational payload for Starship. These next-generation satellites are designed to significantly increase constellation capacity. After deployment, the Ship is expected to perform a deorbit burn and splash down in the Pacific Ocean west of Chile. The Super Heavy booster is planned to execute a boostback and landing burn followed by a controlled splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. No tower catches are planned for either stage on this flight.

The mission builds on the success of Flight 13 and represents a transition from primarily developmental testing toward operational capability. As with all Starship flights, the schedule remains dynamic and subject to regulatory approval, technical readiness, and weather conditions.
